Tesco has received more applications than ever to enter its Pharmacy Graduate Scheme.

Tesco says it has received over 1,000 applications from graduates looking to join this year’s scheme.

The scheme has generated 50 newly qualified pharmacists, now prepared to enter stores and serve communities across the country.

Ashley Hicks, pharmacy director at Tesco, says: “It is crucial that Tesco, and other companies, address the shortage of pharmacists working in the UK before this issue escalates.

“For this reason it is significant that more pharmacists are now qualifying through the Tesco Graduate Scheme than ever before, as we know this shortage is affecting the entire industry.

“Many people, often the most vulnerable in our society, such as the elderly and young children, rely on the increasing number of services being offered locally through community pharmacies.

“We will make sure that students continue to see the benefits that a career in a Tesco pharmacy can offer and continue to enter the workforce.”
