Recruiters cautiously optimistic on conference season

As the season for events and conferences begins in September, hospitality recruiters have given predictions on trading prospects.

As the season for events and conferences begins in September, hospitality recruiters have given predictions on trading prospects.

Paula Rogers, director at Admiral, told Recruiter: “There is renewed confidence, but there is still caution. We have bookings in for September which is giving us some confidence but it is difficult to know until holidays are over.

“We have got some very good senior jobs on and we have got business in for September in events.”

Gary King, director at Collins King & Associates, is more cautious: “The conference and events market has been very hard hit. The corporate market took a nose-dive from October last year. It has not recovered as yet.

“We are coming into the conference and banqueting season. We feel we are at the bottom. I think it will recover in London. It will be down on previous years but we will start to see a recovery. I saw a client this morning who said bookings were starting to come in.”
