England cricketer Andrew Flintoff told The Sun this week that he was annoyed that there are hotel receptionists in this country who cannot speak English.
And James Colairo-Moss, director at Edge Recruitment, told Recruiter that it is vitally important that temporary workers have the neccessary skills to undertake the positions they are being sent to.
“A key part of working on a reception in a hotel is the ability to communicate clearly and concisely with customers and co-workers.
“We are lucky at the moment that we are receiving a much higher percentage of CVs, UK wide, from candidates all looking for temporary work. It means we can be much more selective than ever before in terms of who we send out.
“We have very strict guidelines when filtering candidates for temporary positions, which means that only a very small percentage of candidates we receive will ever be sent out to work.”
Jacqui Sterry, managing director at Mise en place, adds: “We would not consider sending a candidate who could not speak a good level of English. If you are charging a fee from a client’s perspective, you do need to fill the criteria of what they are looking for.”
