Recruiters' roles won't dry up in public sector

It was interesting to read Dean Shoesmith’s comments (Recruiter, 23 June 10). As councils are moving away from a transactional role, recruiters that will provide the best value are those that also follow suit and ensure they are offering appropriate strategic consultancy.

Not only are there opportunities for recruiters to provide councils with the specialist skills that will allow them to manage transformation, but there is also an increasing role for recruiters to work closely with their clients to devise innovative solutions and drive efficiencies.

Specialist recruiters who are experts in their markets and really understand their customers’ needs, will always fare better than those who don’t make that investment and those who work with employers during the whole cycle of employment, from attraction of permanent staff, using temps as a flexible resource and providing career transition to those who are made redundant, will be able to show they can continue to add value during these uncertain times.
