Santander branches to do more recruiting

The HR director of Santander says it is crucial that the bank’s branch managers play “an ever increasing role” in recruiting their own staff.

Speaking to Recruiter about how the bank intends to implements its plans to hire to an additional 600 staff for its branch network, announced in July, Simon Lloyd said: “By getting mangers involved in the recruitment process those managers will have much greater ownership over those new recruits and will really work to make it succeed.

“That is absolutely critical and therefore we are looking to involve branch managers more and more in the recruitment process.”

Lloyd said that the bank would try “one or two different things”, including involving branch managers in interviews. “We will be trying this out in the next couple of months,” said Lloyd. “This is a hugely critical area for us.”

At the moment, Lloyd said that Santander branch mangers’ only involvement in recruiting staff for their own branch was raising a vacancy when one came up.
