Sterling’s recovery will give a long-term boost to retail and hospitality, say recruiters.
Earlier this week, the pound hit a nine-month high against the dollar.
Gary King, director at Collins King & Associates, told Recruiter: “It is a good thing. Some of our clients have never been busier. The bars and restaurants around the Covent garden area have benefitted from a weaker Sterling but ultimately, long term we will benefit.
“We are at the bottom of the cycle and we will be at the the bottom for the next month or so and recover in the next month or so. It will be better for us when Sterling starts to rise again.”
Kate McCarthy, managing director at McCarthy Retail Recruitment, adds: “It is a positive tick as far as the economic recovery goes. If the pound had been stronger and the weather had been good like the rest of the Europe, it would have had a very positive impact.
“We can buy things cheaper and retail’s profitability is affected. It is a positive step forward but we wont make a massive step forward over night.”
