Targeted hiring key to meeting coalition NHS pledges
I read with interest ’Value for money is going to be vital for those in charge of procurement and recruitment providers will need to demonstrate they can deliver’ (Recruiter 26 May).
In the run up to the general election, both the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats pledged to continue to invest in and support the NHS and to protect front line services - yet it remains to be seen whether they can fulfil these promises.
The Conservatives, in particular the Health Secretary, Andrew Lansley, championed the cause of the NHS, pledging to increase spending on services year-on-year, in line with inflation increases.
The party has also promised to increase the quality of dental healthcare in the UK, building up the number of NHS dentists to give one million more people better access to this service - highlighting focus on targeted recruitment for future development.
But the Health Secretary has warned of spending cuts in the future. He told the BBC’s Today Programme that ’the service would not be saved from the same kind of efficiency savings and pay squeezes that will hit right across the public sector in a bid to claw back cash’.
By paying healthcare sector staff less these cuts will pose an even greater challenge for the NHS, as the government expects to increase the quality of services to the public while also reducing expenditure. For future growth, the medical sector, and especially the NHS, still needs to invest in the best staff to further support and develop the healthcare sector in Britain.
The medical industry in particular requires highly qualified individuals. By using targeted recruitment services, for example Jobs4Medical, companies in this sector as well as the NHS will be able to find and recruit highly skilled candidates for specialised roles efficiently - reducing time and resources searching through unsuitable candidates.
While budgets are going to be increasingly scrutinised, healthcare organisations still have a duty to their patients to provide them with care from highly-qualified professionals.
To expand medical care and build on the promises by the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats, it is important for organisations in this sector to continue to recruit for new positions in a cost effective and direct manner.
It is in this area that niche recruitment services can help to cut recruitment costs, while also finding high quality candidates to support the future of healthcare services under the new coalition government.
