Recruiters have revealed their solutions to getting the travel industry moving again.

Recruiter.co.uk asked recruiters from the travel industry what they would like to see the government do to give the sector a lift.

Ian Brooks, director at Gail Kenny, told Recruiter that tax reforms could help.

“A short-term shot in the arm for the domestic tourism market would be the abolition of VAT for accommodation and tourist attractions for the rest of 2009.

“In terms of the outbound market, I would go for the scrapping of Air Passenger Duty on all flights for the remainder of 2009, to provide an incentive for travellers.”

Nina Johnson-Bennett, managing director at Management Search Executive, adds: “We have had a team brainstorm and Tim Harris has suggested that the government admits that tourism is the leading industry now and in the future. They should sponsor a global marketing/advertising campaign focusing on why London and the UK is still a premier destination.”
