Staff in the travel and transport sector have been the hardest hit by the recession, according to new figures.

The figures, from jobsite TipTopJob.com, found that 93% of jobseekers visiting the site from the transport and travel sector are facing redundancy, followed by 92% of construction, engineering and manufacturing jobseekers, and 84% of IT and telecoms workers.

The figures also revealed that 52% of accounting and finance jobseekers are now seeking new employment.

Corinne Dauncey, careers expert at TipTopJob.com, says: “Redundancies are at their highest levels for decades and no sector is safe. What has emerged from our findings is that industries which have previously thought to be the worst hit aren’t as badly affected as others. The fact that sales and recruitment jobs are showing to have the lowest levels of redundancy gives hope that the job market is remains buoyant and that there are positions to be filled.”
