Travel: Swine flu impact negligible, say recruiters

The impact of swine flu on the travel industry has been negligible, according to travel recruiters.

The impact of swine flu on the travel industry has been negligible, according to travel recruiters.

As the number of swine flu cases in the UK climbs to 15, Ian Brooks, director at Gail Kenny Executive Search, told Recruiter: “For the time being the impact on the travel industry of swine flu has been relatively small, with only travel to Mexico being affected.

“However, no-one knows yet how widespread and how prolific the disease will be. If it were to spread to some of the major tourist destinations across the world, then it could have a major impact on the travel industry.”

Julia Feuell, managing director at New Frontiers, told Recruiter that swine flu could foster a demand for temporary staff. “The swine flu crisis is slightly different to SARS in that it is already in the UK and in many parts of the world.

“I would therefore predict that a rise in the requirement for temporary staff would happen should flu run through any companies. Temporary staff will be essential if companies are to avoid a reduction in sales.”
