This week Travelodge announced that it has exchanged on 22 new hotels (2,198 rooms) across the UK and one in Spain, worth £165m. The group has agreed a partnership with Arcadia Group, which sees the clothing retailer forward fund the construction of a 96-room Travelodge hotel above its Topshop store in Edinburgh’s Princes Street, due to open next summer.
Other locations include five London sites — Walthamstow, Enfield, Bethnal Green, Sutton and Southgate, as well as Edinburgh Queen Street, Eastleigh, Loughborough, Sittingbourne, Bedford, Gatwick Airport, Darlington, Altrincham, Malvern, Aylesbury, Newquay, Woking, Glasgow Airport, Hemel Hempstead, Kings Lynn and Barcelona (Spain).
Meanwhile, Travelodge has also opened 18 hotels in H1 2011 and is currently building 43 hotels (4,280 rooms). Twenty-one of these properties are expected to open before the end of this year.
Once completed, all of these new sites will boost the chain’s estate to 540 hotels and 39,957 rooms, creating 1,300 new jobs across the UK.
A spokesperson for Travelodge told Recruiter: “We will be recruiting for the entry-level staff with Jobcentre Plus. These jobs will be receptionists, housekeepers, guest room cleaners and bar staff, and the other roles will be management roles.”
