Online recruitment specialist Recruitment Genius is planning to expand globally in 2011 and is targeting China, Australia, the US and Canada.
The fixed-fee service went global almost by default shortly after its launch this year after recruiting derivatives traders for a major firm in the City but plans to formally market its service overseas. “As these countries pull themselves out of recession they need cost-effective methods of recruitment,” said Recruitment Genius founder and chief executive Geoff Newman. “We help stimulate recruitment by meeting their desire for a faster and cheaper method of recruitment.”
Neman: countries coming out of recession need cost-effective recruitment methods
Newman, who has been in recruitment since 1994, told Recruiter that having recognised how the internet was changing the way recruiters and candidates think and behave, he felt it was time for a new approach. Recruitment Genius combines traditional recruitment skills and techniques with technology to develop a more efficient and cost-effective model for employers.
“Recruitment agencies can be considered expensive these days, which is hardly of the moment,” he said. “There are also around 3,000 job boards out there in the UK and using these can be expensive. You also get a deluge of candidates.”
Using Recruitment Genius, an employer pays £199 (or less for higher volumes) and Recruitment Genius refines the job advertisement, optimises it for all the job boards in its network and posts it to relevant sites and channels (including social media) via Broadbean. The applications come back to Recruitment Genius’ own applicant tracking system (ATS) and using a mixture of technology and human expertise, the most suitable candidates for the role are sorted. The employer can then choose to interview and hire as many candidates as they like from this selection for the flat fee.
As an example of its effectiveness, Newman explains that it recently hit 93.4% successful vacancy fill rate during a recent week in November and receives around 200 new jobs a day. It has recruited for major brands including Tesco, Shell and Ford, as well as smaller firms.
The ATS and its filtering capabilities is one of the keys to its success and has been developed by Recruitment Genius’ own software developers, although an element of it is based on Google APIs (application programming interfaces). From February it will be compliant with the industry standard HR-XML, so will be able to integrate with client ATSs.
A regular user of the service is cloud hosting and computing company ElasticHosts and CEO Richard Davies told Recruiter that all of its appointments to date are Recruitment Genius candidates. “It is much more cost-effective than using agencies, and simultaneously much easier than us posting directly on job boards, since they manage many boards on our behalf,” he said. “We have appointed several Recruitment Genius candidates, and are very happy with them. It is a great way to get visibility for our positions.”
