Mike Brennan, the former chairman of international HR group Hat Pin, has told Recruiter why he resigned from the board and his confidence about the future success of the company.
Brennan announced his resignation when Hat Pin sold The Talent Business to former chief executive Gary Stolkin for £1.5m, potentially rising to £2.5m over the next two years, subject to performance criteria.
The Hat Pin board favoured the disposal, as well as continuing to diversify group revenue streams and grow its profitable businesses Executive Access, Saxton Bampfylde and Akamai Financial Markets, where Brennan was CEO.
The Hat Pin board originally parachuted in Brennan as chairman of The Talent Business in a bid to try to bolster the ailing firm. But a week later it was considered in the best interests of shareholders to sell the business to Stolkin.
Brennan described his resignation as a "big step" after 14 years with the company, but he was confident that a "comprehensive succession plan" was in place which would take the firm to new heights.
"I think it says a great deal about the resilience of our business model and team that the appointment of my long-term business partner Daren Kemp as my successor last year went so smoothly," said Brennan.
Since merging Akamai with Hat Pin in September 2006, Brennan says the business has "grown considerably", making some important additions to the team and establishing new offices in Singapore, Tokyo and Dubai.
He added: "My belief is that the business is uniquely positioned to further leverage its standing in the market and become an even greater force within international financial markets search."
Brennan describes 2008 as being a "transformational year" because he plans to marry his fiancée Kamila this summer.
"Because 2006 and 2007 were incredibly busy years, I intend taking a break from the business to spend some quality time with Kamila and my little boy Jack. They are both very special to me and I owe it to them to spend more time with them. This will also be an opportune time for me to reflect on what the future holds for me personally and for us as a family.
"I am immensely proud of the Akamai team and their many achievements. They are a very special and talented group of people and I am privileged to have worked alongside them."
