The Department of Energy and Climate Change’s decision to grant permission for the the world’s second biggest wind farm off the coast of Wales would create a mass of jobs in the utlities, energy and enginering recruitment market.
A spokesperson for the British Wind Energy Association told Recruiter the development would boost jobs in the sector because it would require maritime support, engineers and on-shore support.
James Beazley, director of energy sector recruiter Six Recruitment, which supplies staff to wind power projects, told Recruiter: “Anyone who is in the engineering sector is going to benefit, because this type of project is going to entail all disciplines of engineering from geo-technical, earth science all the way to mechanical engineers and rotating equipment.”
Beazley also predicted staffing a project of this size would require expertise from outside the UK.
Energy giant npower, which is responsible for construction of the wind farm, has said it will generate enough power for the average annual needs of around half a million homes. Construction is due to begin in 2011.
