The director of the Empresa de Ferrocarriles Ecuatorianos, the national rail service of the country, Jose Eduardo Cuevas, says that 1,800 jobs in the industry have already been created, with later jobs expected to focus on construction jobs.
Cuevas says that the network’s improvements will boost towns in the country that have been “traditionally forgotten”.
The country is looking forward to receiving several rail engines soon, which will arrive from Spain by boat.
