Tue, 19 Feb 2013Around a third of all job vacancies advertised by local authority Hampshire County Council will be apprenticeships, under a new initiative announced by the council.
The council’s cabinet has approved the Hampshire Youth Investment Programme, through which up to 170 apprentices will be recruited each year over the next five years.
With the extension of a programme titled ‘Internships Plus’, another 30 posts will be made available across the period for young people in care or leaving care.
Apprentices working for the council currently include those in roles as mechanics and teaching assistants, working in museums and in laboratories.
The first cohort of new hires should be recruited in the summer, and join in September.
The council is also making investment in several Future Skills Centres, operated by post-16 training providers and or schools, which will support workforce requirements in priority areas such as health and social care.
