Tue, 26 Feb 2013Utilities giant British Gas, Irish retailer Centra and fast food chain Domino’s have all signalled their intent to expand their businesses through new hires.

British Gas
The company has announced plans for 1,000 “skilled jobs” – with all the roles to be filled by unemployed young people.

The green roles are create by a partnership with environment charity Global Action Plan, British Gas itself and professional services firm Accenture, which will give free sustainability training to 1,400 17-25-year-olds not currently in education, employment or training.

All individuals completing the training are guaranteed interviews for the full-time roles with British Gas, which will deliver housing regeneration projects to allow households to become more energy efficient.

The full scheme’s roll-out follows a successful pilot scheme in Glasgow and Walsall.

Centra
According to the Irish Times, the firm will add 20 new convenience stores to its 458-strong Republic of Ireland-wide network, up from last year’s 18 openings – thanks to a total €20m (£17.2m) investment.

This will result in 400 new jobs, some 100 of these created by opening a number of new greenfield sites, while the rest come as existing stores expand and other independent retailers join the network.

The firm announced sales of €1.43bn for 2012.

Domino’s Pizza
In the firm’s preliminary results for the 53 weeks to 30 December 2012, the chain said in 2012 it “created over 1,500 new jobs in stores and expect a similar number in 2013”.

Domino’s made total sales of just under £600m, a 12.8% yearly increase, in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Switzerland.

The firm also said it was “making encouraging progress in Germany” and was in the process of expanding Swiss, Liechtensteiner and Luxembourg operations, with Austrian expansion also an option.
