Tue, 5 Feb 2013Automotive manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced plan to create a new £500m Engine Manufacturing Centre in the UK, creating almost 1,400 new “highly skilled engineering and manufacturing jobs”, according to the company.
The firm is also set to invest £2.75bn in product creation across the year to continue growth plans that have seen staff numbers grow to 25,000 people globally, with over 9,000 of those jobs having been created in the past two years as of its most recent jobs announcement earlier this year.
Speaking at the Geneva International Motor Show, Jaguar Land Rover chief executive officer, Dr Ralf Speth, says: “Jaguar Land Rover's new Engine Manufacturing Centre in the UK is a clear demonstration of our business strategy guiding our investment plans.”
JLR claims to be the UK’s “largest investor in automotive research and development”, and the new investment is good news for employment and job prospects elsewhere in the industry, with each job at an original equipment manufacturer such as itself creating up to 7.5 jobs across the supply chain.
The new plant will open later this year and the first engines will come off production lines in 2015.
