Jobs Watch: Vodafone takes on 750 in Australia

Telecommunications provider Vodafone Hutchison Australia is to create 750 new customer service jobs in the Tasmanian state capital of Hobart.

This comes after a A$4m (£2.7m) investment from the Australian government, with extra jobs to be added at a rate of up to 70 a month, more than doubling the 680 strong workforce currently in place at the call centre in Kingston, in the outskirts of the capital.
The federal government is also making a commitment to work with Vodafone to enhance the skills of the Tasmanian workforce as the roll-out of the National Broadband Network, touted to create up to 18,000 jobs nationally, continues.
The Tasmanian government is in addition providing $850k for infrastructure costs and in tax waivers for new staff.
