Recruitment of over 60,000 government posts will open soon in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, as part of what a newspaper calls an “effort to woo people” ahead of elections next year.

The New Indian Express reports that an estimated 63,621 posts are vacant, with several thousand new posts to be added to the list.

Around a third of these roles will come in education and half this amount in the police.

Writes the Express: “Such large-scale recruitment by the government would be an advantage for the Congress party in the ensuing elections. It would also become a personal plus for Kiran Kumar Reddy [chief minister of Andhra Pradesh], who has been saying that education, employment and health are his primary agenda, ever since he took over as chief minister.”
