Four firms providing staffing services are today celebrating winning a Queen’s Award for Enterprise – the UK’s highest accolade for business success.

A total of 152 businesses nationally have been recognised this year – 116 exporting firms have picked up International Trade Awards, 27 companies have been given Innovation Awards and nine have received Sustainable Development Awards.

In these latest awards, the four firms – of which two provide recruitment services as part of a broader portfolio, and two are pure recruiters – are:

Alfred Cheyne Engineering
The Aberdeen firm supplies ‘hire personnel’ alongside other winching, design, manufacturing and testing solutions. It wins an International Trade Award.

Oil Consultants
Based in Washington, Tyne & Wear, the company provides individuals and teams to the global oil & gas industry, entering 11 new markets in 2012. It also wins an International Trade Award.

Protec Technical
The Hampshire company wins an International Trade Award. It provides technical staff to the aerospace, defence, engineering and construction industries, placing workers across the world.

The Workspace Group
Based in County Londonderry, the company wins a Sustainable Development Award “for aiding regeneration and demonstrating commercially successful sustainability”, through a range of services including recruitment and employability programmes.

Winners are visited by a Royal representative and presented with a crystal bowl to mark their achievement and attend a celebratory reception at Buckingham Palace. They can use The Queen’s Award Emblem in advertising, marketing and on packaging for a period of five years as a symbol of their quality and success.

Business and energy minister Michael Fallon says: “The Queen’s Awards highlight our strong entrepreneurial streak and the excellent businesses we have up and down the country who are growing, creating jobs, making a valuable contribution to the economy and helping us to compete in the global race. I applaud each and every one of the winners."

Recruitment firms winning Queen’s Awards in previous years include First Point Group, Grafton Recruitment, MSI, Penta Consulting and Orion Group.

The Queen’s Awards are announced on Her Majesty the Queen’s birthday, 21 April, each year. Interested businesses can find out more about the awards and should submit an entry for the 2014 awards online by the final working day of September.
