Thu, 11 Apr 2013First it was rounds of golf – now maverick internet company Peer 1 Hosting is putting a slide travelling between floors on its office at the heart of its recruitment.
The company is officially launching its new office following a £1m renovation today (11 April). Other new features include a yoga area, a cinema room, dart boards and swings, among other fun elements and gizmos.
EMEA people partner Kate Little tells Recruiter that the new office takes on particular relevance to her role as a recruiter when she is looking for people with the right attitude to match the company’s, in addition to the necessary hard skills.
When interviewing for roles recently, Little finished job interviews by asking “would you like to take the stairs or the slide?” to get back from the first floor to the ground floor.
The first four people went for the more conventional option, leaving Little wondering whether it was “too much to ask”, she describes to Recruiter.
However, the next role the company had to fill was for an accountant. Peer 1 was struggling to find a good business-minded accountant who fitted their culture, she says. But one candidate for the role really embraced the company culture. Little asked the interviewee if she had any questions before they began their interview. “When can I go on the slide?”, was the response.
EMEA managing director Dominic Monkhouse says: “Our goal with the design of the new headquarters and EMEA offices was to make Peer 1 Hosting a place to work that inspires our staff and makes everyone that little bit more excited to turn up for work.”
The company is attempting to make itself ‘the most human company on the internet’.
Little was speaking to Recruiter for the IT & telecoms sector focus, which you can see on p14 of April’s magazine, out next week. In the mean time, click for more IT & telecoms recruitment news.
