Thu, 23 May 2013Energy and earth sciences recruiter EarthStream Global is to launch its Japanese business with the opening of a Tokyo office on 3 June, Asia-Pacific managing director Kevin Gibson tells Recruiter.
The new office will work in the oil & gas recruitment market, as well as energy & utilities – with a particular focus on renewable energy, which Gibson says is growing substantially in Japan.
Following the 2011 Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster, the country has pledged to end its reliance on the energy source, with renewables due to take its place. “The amount of money being poured into renewable energy there at the moment is phenomenal,” Gibson says. “Nuclear energy is providing 26% of energy nationally – that’s a huge thing to replace.”
Sean Travers will head up the Tokyo office as managing director for Japan. He joins from talent management consultancy HRnet One, where he was Asia-Pacific practice leader also based in Japan.
In March, EarthStream announced a £2m investment from private investors Key Capital Partners for a minority stake in the firm, saying it would help accelerate expansion for the firm in Japan, as well as the US, where it already has Atlanta and Houston offices.
