Temp and perm recruitment build across (almost) all sectors

An increase in permanent staff and contract employee demand was seen in eight of the nine sectors of the REC/KPMG Report on Jobs for May – with construction the only blip on the chart.
Mon, 10 June 2013An increase in permanent staff and contract employee demand was seen in eight of the nine sectors of the REC/KPMG Report on Jobs for May – with construction the only blip on the chart.

Produced by the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) and professional services firm KPMG, the report surveys 400 UK recruiters and shows the rate of expansion of permanent placements at a six-month high, while temp billings also rose following a drop last month.

The engineering sector, created in April, and nursing, medical & care, were the top two sectors for both permanent and contract jobs, overtaking IT & computing on the permanent side, although that sector did see a major non-permanent rise. Construction was the one sector to see a decline, albeit only fractional, in contract recruitment, while permanent demand was flat.

The REC report means good news keeps coming for the UK recruitment market, most recently in the Reed Job Index for May, while official government data last month found the highest level of job ads in over four years.

After the Midlands was shown to be the place to be for recruiters in last month’s REC/KPMG report, it was the area with the weakest temp recruitment growth in May, while London was the laggard on the perm side, the only area seeing decline, albeit moderate.
