Online retailer Amazon is creating more than 5,000 full-time jobs across its US fulfilment centres, which pack and distribute products. The company also says it has 2,000 open roles in its US customer service networks.

The 5,000 jobs will be at 17 locations across 10 different states and are a significant expansion of Amazon’s packing and distribution workforce in the US, which now stands at 20,000.

Amazon says in a press note that the fulfilment centre roles pay 30% more than positions “in traditional retail stores”, before taking into account stock grants to full-time employees, which have added an average of 9% to basic pay annually in the last five years.

The customer service roles, a mixture of full-time, part-time and seasonal positions, are at four locations, with home working roles for customer service staff also available in Arizona, Oregon and Washington.

Would-be fulfilment centre workers are directed to amazonfulfillmentcareers.com, while customer service applicants are directed to the careers section of the regular Amazon website.

The multinational has a total of 88,400 staff worldwide.
