Thu, 18 Jul 2013International recruiter Argyll Scott will open an office in Dubai on 1 September to serve the legal recruitment market, placing in-house and private practice lawyers.

The new Middle East office will be the fourth location for Argyll Scott and its third overseas, joining offices in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Leading the three-person Dubai operation will be Mark Walters (right), currently head of legal search EMEA for Argyll Scott in London. Walters previously spent from 2006 to 2010 working in Dubai. His career has included roles at Taylor Root and First Counsel. He joined Argyll Scott at the end of 2011.

Chief executive officer John Hunter (below) tells Recruiter that plans call for Argyll Scott to open in a single vertical market initially – in this case, legal – and “then in due course, roll out across the portfolio”.

Argyll Scott operates in finance, change management, IT, sales & marketing, and legal. In the Asia-Pacific region, it also operates in construction & property.

Hunter says that the choice of cities in which the firm opens was based on “where our clients are and want us to be – strategically important cities”.

“From a business cycle perspective, we’ve been seeing a fairly sustained uptick in demand,” Hunter says. “We’re putting our foot back on the gas.”

Citing Walters’s significant Middle East experience and contacts, Hunter says another consideration in expansion was providing opportunities for key team members.

“It’s a market I never really left,” Walters tells Recruiter.

Dubai will provide a hub for additional Argyll Scott activity across the Gulf Co-operation Council countries and other geographies including Eastern Europe and Africa, he adds.
