Manpower partners with GSTW to get US veterans manufacturing
Staffing giant Manpower has partnered with the Get Skills to Work (GSTW) coalition, an initiative led by GE and The Manufacturing Institute to train military veterans for jobs in advanced manufacturing companies.
Manpower says its commitment sees it partnering with veterans groups locally across the US to connect with outgoing military personnel and coaching them in how to make their experience relevant to the civilian world.
GSTW is working with over 425 manufacturers, including GE, as well as major firms such as Alcoa, Boeing and Lockheed Martin. The man in charge of recruitment and talent at Lockheed outside of the US, Jonathan Young, was the subject of the cover profile in September's edition of Recruiter.
In the UK, Young also recently confirmed Lockheed Martin's commitment to working with military veterans. He told Recruiter, "We've got a working party looking at how we can integrate those aspects of people leaving the forces.
"At the moment, it's fairly piecemeal and we've worked with, for example, The Poppy Factory, to bring in more wounded warriors into our organisation and make sure we've got the right support network to ensure these people come in and do a great job for us. It's exciting times."
The Manpower announcement coincides with the one-year anniversary of GSTW.
