Recruiter attended the annual REC Awards ceremony at Royal Lancaster London last night (21 November 2024), where the industry honoured the cream of the crop.

Highlighting the best in the UK’s recruitment and staffing industry, from start-ups to multinationals, the recruitment sector trade body also awarded the Lifetime Achievement honour to CEO of Nash Squared, Bev White.

White began her career in technology, holding CIO [chief information officer] and IT leadership positions at Schlumberger and NTL (which became Virgin Media). Since 2002, Bev has combined a passion for technology with a career in recruitment and talent, with various leadership roles, including Penna, and before joining Nash Squared (formerly Harvey Nash until May 2022), as UK and Ireland CEO for GI Group. Bev believes deeply in the power of people and creating a sustainable culture where people can thrive.

White appeared on the front cover of Recruiter, as the subject of the main feature, when she was CEO of Gi Group UK in 2018.

Neil Carberry, CEO at the REC, said: “Bev has built an outstanding career as one of the leading women in technology in the UK. She has paved the way for many who followed and led businesses in three very different parts of our industry. She is a leader who lifts people up and her advice and guidance, which is always considered, is deeply valued by so many.”

Speaking about the other awards on the night, Carberry said: “The entries this year were of exceptional quality, and every shortlisted nominee deserves congratulations. The judges had to make some very tough decisions, reflecting the high standard of submissions. Every nominee should feel immense pride in their achievement, and the winners have much to celebrate.

“Our sector can look ahead with some optimism and people challenges are at the heart of growing our economy. We must embrace innovation and new ways of serving clients and candidates, but we’re entrepreneurial. Our awards ceremony shows the difference we can make as specialists in talent.”

Among the winners was VHR, winner of the Recruitment Team of the Year, Supply Hive, Start Up of the Year and Tile Hill, which won People Development Business Award. On the individual side, Richard Shorrock from the Spencer Clarke Group won Agency Star of the Year, Tom Johnson of Hernshead Group won Business Leader of the Year and Candidate Experience of the Year was won by Jodie Rafferty of Rafferty Resourcing.
