Wed, 18 Jun 2014Long-term unemployed people in Australia, particularly young job seekers, will receive help to find and keep a job following the approval of a bill this week by the Federal Parliament.
The Social Security Legislation Amendment (Increased Employment Participation Bill) 2014 implements measures to provide incentives for young people to stay in employment and address some of the barriers faced by the long-term unemployed.
The legislation, which takes effect on 1 July, delivers on two key election commitments – the Job Commitment Bonus and the Relocation Assistance to Take up a Job programme.
The Job Commitment Bonus is a new payment that rewards young, long-term unemployed job seekers aged 18-30 if they get and keep a job. The Relocation Assistance to Take Up a Job measure is designed to promote workforce participation by encouraging job seekers to move to areas where jobs are available.
