There are a “number of benefits” to retaining an engaged team within your organisation, an expert in employee engagement told an audience in London yesterday morning (25 June).
Speaking at a breakfast event held by UK-based hospitality job board Caterer.com, Tom Debenham, managing director of People Insight, measurers of employee engagement, told the audience that there is a “wealth” of evidence out there that shows it “pays to retain an engaged team”.
Debenham presented engagement stats from voluntary think-tank Engage For Success, which showed numerous benefits to retaining an engaged team. Benefits include:
- 2.5 x revenue growth
- 2 x annual net profit
- 50% less absence days
- 18% higher productivity
He said that additional research carried out by People Insight had shown the key drivers which had the biggest impact on an employers intention to stay within an organisation were that an employee “gets a sense of achievement”; that they feel “valued and recognised”; and that their “career development aspirations are being met”.
However, he did go on to say that “a bit of staff turnover within a company isn’t always such a bad thing.
“I’m not saying we should aim for zero staff turnover, but sometimes staff aren’t always proud of where they work, and won’t give their best for an organisation.”
He said these members of staff are known as “stubborn stains”, and therefore recruitment plays a key role in finding people that want to be “fully engaged”.
