The digital technology sector is expected to create 46,000 jobs in the capital and add an extra £12bn to the economy over the next decade, mayor Boris Johnson will say today at the launch of London Tech Week.
The extra 46,000 jobs would be nearly 30% more than the 155,600 currently employed.
The mayor will kick off the week at an event in Shoreditch’s Silicon Roundabout area today, joined by business leaders including Sir Michael Moritz, chairman of venture capital firm Sequoia Capital, and Michael Bloomberg, former mayor of New York City.
The news comes a day after eight leading tech firms, including Microsoft, Virgin Media and Capgemini, marked the start of London Tech Week by pledging to take on nearly 2,000 apprentices in London by 2016.
