US businessman Gene Haas has said his plans to locate an American Formula One team in the UK will create up to 250 jobs in the country.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Haas said that initially he would be hiring “around 200, maybe a little bit more than that at 250”.

He added that he was planning to locate the team in the UK because eight of the 11 F1 teams are here, gathered in a cluster around Oxford known as Motorsport Valley.

He is launching an F1 team as a marketing vehicle for Haas Automation, the machine-tool manufacturer that he founded in 1983.
