Funding support for Sir Ben Ainslie’s sailing HQ that will create jobs in Portsmouth

The government has announced £7.5m funding to support sailor Sir Ben Ainslie’s America’s Cup team and their proposal to be based in Portsmouth – a move that would create around 90 jobs.
Wed, 2 Jul 2014The government has announced £7.5m funding to support sailor Sir Ben Ainslie’s America’s Cup team and their proposal to be based in Portsmouth – a move that would create around 90 jobs.

An additional £1.4m from Portsmouth City Council will support this investment and the jobs would be available at the team’s HQ, which will be based at Portsmouth’s Camber Docks. It will become the focal point for the design, construction and development of the team’s boats, and will also provide sports science and fitness facilities, and a visitor centre.

An apprenticeship and training scheme will be set up as part of efforts to encourage participation in the sport of sailing, all areas of the marine industry and develop the talent of the future.
