At the same time the company is to repay the government £154.5m of a finance package, which was put in place when it acquired Northern Rock in 2012.
One hundred and twenty jobs will be in the North-East.

A statement from Virgin Money said that the business achieved an underlying profit of £53.4m in 2013, after an underlying loss of £2.5m in 2012.
