Fri, 8 Aug 2014A shortage of German-speaking bilingual customer service employees is hindering UK-based Bathrooms.com’s expansion into European markets, but they are now hoping to find a Gretel to join their Hansel.

Bathrooms.com says it used 20 recruitment services and over 50 CVs were reviewed, however, only 14 interviews took place and a single hire – Hans-Joerg Dreier – in the 10-month search. Perhaps asking candidates to follow breadcrumbs wasn’t the best idea?

“The main stumbling block was finding enough candidates that fitted the brief. It’s surprising how difficult it is to find suitable employees with proficient German and English language skills. Eventually, Hans arrived and we’re now on the hunt to find a Gretel,” said Philip Ellis, chief operating officer of Bathrooms.com.

Dreier said: “I wanted to utilise my knowledge in a leading e-commerce company like Bathrooms.com and I felt this was an ideal career choice. I hope we can find a Gretel to do the same.”
