A proposed merger between Singapore’s two main online recruitment advertising service providers is open for public consultation, in an effort to address potential competition concerns.
The proposed merger would see SEEK and SEEK Asia Investments, which runs JobsDB.co.sg, buy certain recruitment business assets of JobStreet Corporation Berhad, including website JobStreet.com.sg.
A statement issued recently by the Competition Commission of Singapore (CCS) said the deal would “bring together the two main online recruitment advertising providers in Singapore … each with a substantial employer/recruiter customer base and jobseeker database”.
It said CCS received notice, made under legislation that prohibits mergers that could result in a substantial loss of competition in any market in Singapore, of the proposal on 20 February this year and completed the first phase of its review in April.
It was, however, unable to conclude that the proposal would not raise competition concerns and therefore submitted proposed commitments offered by SEEK for consultation.
The term of the commitments would be for three years from the date of completed merge.
Consultation is open until 5 September via the CCS website.
The CCS is a statutory board established under the Competition Act in 2005.
