Candidates have to complete placement tests to pass through the first few rounds of the interview process.
The online testing platform gives Google the scope to evaluate a large number of students.
Pranav Ramarao, a computer science student at BITS Pilani in Hyderabad, told the Times his “algorithms will do the talking". He said: "They test your algorithms and data structure. You can immediately assess how good your code is, unlike a pen-and-paper test where you don't know if the code is correct.”
Ramarao won a Google Code Jam contest in Hyderabad last year and spent a day in the company’s office.
At least 50 students will be attempting the code jam from the institute's Hyderabad centre this month.
