In-house recruiting practitioners debated this and other questions recently at a focus group held by The Forum for In-house Recruitment Managers (The FIRM) and insurance company Aviva.
“If you’re managing high-volume call centre recruitment, it’s very difficult to provide personalisation and a high level of support for the new starter,” The FIRM’s co-founder and talent director for Write Research, Emma Mirrington, has told Recruiter. “Obviously, for a very senior hire, then yes, you’re able to do that.”
Participants agreed that about 80% of the onboarding service should be the same for all, including the availability of an online portal that provides information and access to the hiring organisation. Also, “actually yes, there should be some differentiation, for your more senior staff, there should be a more tailored and personalised approach because your investment in those people is going to be significantly more, and their impact on the organisation is also significantly more”, Mirrington says. However, she adds, “but there should be some common themes”.
