Remand for two accused of human trafficking and forced labour

Two Portadown men arrested and charged with human trafficking and forced labour reappeared via video link in Craigavon Magistrates Court, Northern Ireland, this morning.

Samuil Covaci and Ioan Lacatus were both remanded in custody to reappear next month – Covaci on 26 September and Lacatus for a bail application on 5 September.
As Recruiter previously reported, the men appeared in Lisburn Magistrates Court last week, each charged with 12 counts of people trafficking and 12 of forced labour charges, as well as acting as a gangmaster without a licence.
The charges followed the rescue of 14 Romanian men and six women from two locations in County Armagh over the previous week. They had been working at a meat-processing factory.
Lacatus has also been charged with concealing property contrary to the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
Neither man entered a plea.
