Thu, 16 Oct 2014 | By Sarah Marquet A “severe shortage” of medical professionals in the UK has prompted an industry recruiter to launch its own medical school to help upskill registered professionals.

ID Medical, which provides staff for NHS hospitals as well as private organisations, will launch its school at the annual British Medical Jobs Careers Fair tomorrow [17 October].

The school is the brainchild of company head of marketing, Caryn Cooper.

She told Recruiter there was a “severe shortage of medical professionals, both doctors and nurses, in the UK and although ID Medical has a large database, there are not a lot of young people entering a medical career”.

Medical professionals will receive discounted, CPD (continuing professional development)-accredited training to help them upskill and keep abreast of any changes.

ID Medical School representatives will also go out to schools to talk to high school students about entering the profession, as well as talk to medical students about their options.

Cooper said the offering was aimed at the “full spectrum, from the cradle to the grave” of its registered medical professionals.

It will also support international healthcare professionals by offering medical-specific English training.

Courses will be a mixture of online and in person training.

Cooper said the school was partnering with the Royal Society of Medicine, Infomed Research and Training, and WatMed educational to deliver the courses.

The careers fair is being held tomorrow [17 October] and Saturday at the Business Design Centre in Islington.
