POEA suspends another recruiter for misrepresentation

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has cancelled the licence of another recruitment agency, Non-Stop Employment Corporation, for misrepresentation.
Wed, 15 Oct 2014The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has cancelled the licence of another recruitment agency, Non-Stop Employment Corporation, for misrepresentation.

In this case, it stemmed from the deployment of a female domestic services worker to Kuwait.

In a statement, POEA administrator Hans Cacdac said the case stemmed from a report of the Inter-Agency Council Against Human Trafficking.

He said the misrepresentation was “committed” when the agency’s direct employer failed to pay the worker the US$400 (£251) monthly salary as indicated in the employment contract, which is the minimum wage for such workers. It was unclear as to the extent of the agency’s liability in managing the contract.

She was paid 65 Kuwaiti dinar or £70. The employer also “transferred the worker to another employer from whose hands she suffered physical maltreatment”. She claimed she did not get enough sleep or food.

Cacdac said it was the agency’s third such case. The Kuwaiti agency was also disqualified.
