Tue, 14 Oct 2014 | By DeeDee Doke UK recruiters considering expanding to the US may want to put Texas at the top of their list for new offices, following encouragement last night in London from Governor Rick Perry, who told an audience that the Lone Star State offers “huge opportunities” to British businesses.

The pro-business governor, widely seen as a potential candidate for US president in 2016, said that the so-called “Texas miracle” – with one-third of all new jobs created in the US in recent years reportedly occurring in Texas – stemmed from a policy of freeing up business from “over-taxation, over-regulation and over-litigation”.

“My main role in life is to promote business,” he told the British American Business Council at an evening reception, attended by Recruiter.

Despite a reputation as a state where oil & gas are perceived to be the dominant industry, Texas is seeing faster growth in at least seven other industry sectors, including transport, leisure and hospitality, Perry said.

The governor, who earlier served with the US Air Force at RAF Mildenhall, Suffolk, is meeting with chancellor George Osborne today.
