Fri, 9 Jan 2015 | By Graham SimonsHanson Building Products has used “word of mouth” to fill 30 roles at its recently reopened factory, according to a spokesperson for the construction firm.

The firm’s Accrington factory in the North-East of England closed seven years ago, but has now reopened following a £1.6m government investment. The initiative has created 30 new jobs, with Hanson looking at a further 20 new positions at the site in 2015.

The re-start takes place in two stages with phase one beginning in January and phase two, which will require further investment of around £350k, following later this year.

A Hanson spokesperson told Recruiter most of its recruitment drive is now complete, with six in 10 former workers returning to the site.

“There’s a few jobs still open but the majority have been filled.

“We’ve used word of mouth. We haven’t had to do much at all,” he said.

For higher skilled roles such as process technicians and engineers the firm has transferred talent from other sites, the spokesperson added. Prime Minister David Cameron and the chancellor George Osborne visited Hanson’s site yesterday [8 January].

The pair have pledged to build 25,000 quality homes in the North-West and released a shortlist of areas that are in line to receive £200m of government loans to regenerate run-down brownfield areas into new housing.
