Focusing on both core and growth markets proves key to HOT 100-FAST 50 success

Speaking at an event last night [12 February] at Royal Bank of Scotland’s City of London offices to celebrate the UK’s fastest growing and most profitable recruitment companies, as featured in Recruiter’s 2015 FAST 50 and 2014 HOT 100 lists, the duo revealed the secret to their appearance on both lists.

“We didn’t start out trying to make both lists but what we tried to do was build a strong profitable business over the last five years,” Tucker told Recruiter. “It started really in 2010 with our operating model where we tried to balance revenue with growth and that enabled us to grow in a profitable way.”

Turner added: “We stayed very close to our core markets, as well as growth markets like health and education. So central and local government are our core markets, but health and education were growth markets for us.”

GatenbySanderson was not the only recruiter to appear on both lists, as Recruiter editor DeeDee Doke noted.

“There might be a view in some quarters that being on the FAST 50 is not in tune with being on the HOT 100 and vice versa,” she told guests.

“However, you can have both great growth and profitability. We had more than a dozen companies who were on both lists.”
