Two further companies set to launch older worker apprenticeships in 2015

Barclays will not be the only organisation launching apprenticeship campaigns for people aged over 50 this year, according to older workers’ champion Ros Altmann.
Thu, 5 Feb 2015 Barclays will not be the only organisation launching apprenticeship campaigns for people aged over 50 this year, according to older workers’ champion Ros Altmann.

Recruiter revealed last week banking giant Barclays is to open up its apprenticeship programmes to the over 50s.

Altmann, who was appointed by the government last summer to look into extending working lives among the UK workforce, told Recruiter she knew of two companies she couldn’t publicly identify at this time that are set to follow Barclays’ lead.

“There are two more in the pipeline for later in the year where big companies will be rolling out apprenticeship schemes specifically for over 50s.

“I warmly welcome these initiatives. It is something that will be very beneficial potentially to people who need or want to embark on a new career, perhaps because they have been doing something that physically they can no longer do or perhaps because they have been involved in an industry which is no longer thriving or closing down.”
