Fri, 20 Mar 2015Spanish convents are turning to Facebook and other social media in a bid to bring their recruitment methods into the 21st century.
The number of women joining religious orders has fallen from 6,500 in 1966 to just 250 today, according to a report on Spanish English-language news website Olive Press.
The site goes on to say the latest recruitment thinking has been pioneered by Noemi Saiz who, after trying out life as a nun, decided she was better suited to helping “archaic” religious institutions change their marketing tack with a focus on younger generations.
Convents are reportedly using a specialist website as well as social platform Facebook.
