LinkedIn’s Elevate aims to harness the power of employee networks for talent attraction

Mon, 13 Apr 2015LinkedIn’s new content sharing platform Elevate aims to harness the power of content shared over employee networks to better attract talent.

LinkedIn issued a blog post revealing details of Elevate this morning [13 April]. The solution, set to launch in Q3 2015, works by providing a more structured process for employers and employees to share content across their LinkedIn employer networks.

Employers nominate a curator who sorts content into topic areas that employees can subscribe to and share across their own network. Relevant content can then be broadcasted across employees’ networks and can be timed so it appears at the most opportune times. Relevant content is also generated through the use of algorithmic recommendations from news apps LinkedIn Pulse and Newsle.

The system also enables employees to see how many times content they have shared has been liked, commented on and reshared, and how many people it reached. Other data provided includes job views and company page followers, as well as results on hires, leads, and sales generated due to content shared.

The blog post added LinkedIn plans to add further information, such as who viewed profiles and requested to connect as a result of the content they shared.

A LinkedIn spokesperson told Recruiter Elevate aims to benefit recruiters and the companies they work for by improving the effectiveness of content produced in attracting talent and selling products to a broader audience.

“Only about 2% of employees promote content their company has shared on social networks. Yet they’re responsible for about 20% of the overall engagement (views, likes, comments and shares) that content receives.

“That’s because their networks are 10 times larger than their company’s followers, and they’re more trusted. Every six pieces of content an employee shares results in six job views, three company page views and one company page follower. It benefits employees by helping them expand their networks and establish themselves as experts.”

From today Elevate is available in the App Store and Google Play. Anyone can download the app, but will only receive content if they work at one of the companies invited to use Elevate as part of a pilot. These companies include Adobe, Quintiles and Unilever.

Elevate has two user interfaces with curators accessing Elevate via a desktop dashboard, and employees using the solution from iOS and Android Apps, and mobile web.

LinkedIn adds it is exploring a variety of different models to determine the price of the product.

The Elevate announcement follows on from last week’s news of LinkedIn’s acquisition of lynda.com.

The professional network announced it has entered into an agreement to buy the online learning company for $1.5bn (£1.03bn).

Commenting on the acquisition, a statement from LinkedIn’s chief executive Jeff Weiner said: "When integrated with the hundreds of millions of members and millions of jobs on LinkedIn, lynda.com can change the way in which people connect to opportunity."

A spokesperson for LinkedIn told Recruiter it had no further information about just how lynda.com will be integrated into its services.
