Former Berkeley Scott operations director Mike Gardner has launched his own business in partnership with Nick Clover, managing director of permanent hospitality recruiter Appetite4Recruitment.

The new business, Appetite4Work, officially started today, placing temp chefs and events staff across London and Surrey.

Gardner, who left Berkeley Scott in May, told Recruiter after 10 years at one company, “I didn’t want to go and do the same thing, I felt like I wanted to do my own thing”.

He knew Clover – the two previously being competitors – and “just clicked” with him.

The aim is to expand the business to Leeds and Manchester, probably in about 18 months, as Appetite4Recruitment also has offices there.

Appetite4Recruitment and Appetite4Work are separate companies but share a back office.

Appetite4Work employs two people but Gardner plans to increase that to five by the end of next year.
