US Workplace Staffing Solutions sued over gender violation

The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is suing a Louisiana-based staffing company for alleged sexual discrimination.

The EEOC says Workplace Staffing Solutions violated federal law by failing to hire at least 34 qualified women for temporary residential trashcan (household rubbish) collector positions in Mississippi because of their gender.

According to EEOC’s lawsuit, filed in a Mississippi district court on 26 October, a qualified female responded to a trashcan collector job advert in September 2012 by contacting the staffing firm.

However, she was told the position was “male only” and was prevented from applying. She was allegedly one of 33 women who applied but were never hired.

EEOC says up to 130 men were hired for these positions and no women.

The lawsuit seeks monetary damages.

Recruiter contacted Workplace Staffing Solutions but had not heard back by deadline.
