An additional 2m more people are set to find themselves out of work across the globe in 2016, according to a report from the International Labour Organization (ILO).
The ILO’s ‘World Employment and Social Outlook – Trends 2016’ report, published yesterday, predicts global unemployment will increase by around 2.3m to 199.4m this year, with a further 1.1m increase in 2017.
The ILO expects emerging economies to bear the brunt of rising unemployment, while developed economies can expect a slight fall in unemployment.
The report adds the ILO estimates the final figure for global unemployment in 2015 was 197.1m.
